Guild of Unloved and Forgotten Film
The Guild maintains a collection of moving images which have, for one reason or another, received insufficient recognition or have otherwise fallen outside established collecting priorities.
The collection includes musical films, animation, television, documentary, popular culture, experimental work and other forms of moving image.
Having spent all his life collecting used corks, Dr Ersatz is no stranger to poking about in dusty places. When at a local boot sale he stumbled across a pair of ice skates the vendor had inconsiderately left in the way, he fell nose first into a cardboard box containing an old film reel.
In a moment of unbridled impetuosity, Dr Ersatz paid the few pennies the vendor was demanding and hurried home with his treasure. Some months later, he managed to source a suitable projector to see what he had acquired.
It was simply an outtake from a puppet series shown in the 1960s by one of the many British television companies, in which the string pulled mechanical monsters, who only had to roar, forgot their lines.
Nonetheless, Dr Ersatz loved it. His interest piqued, he soon went scouting for more.
It turned out to be a fruitful field of research, for in garages and lofts all over the country he made a nuisance of himself, gradually acquiring the bones of what has now become the Guild's collections. He still does to this day.
Dr Ersatz continues to scurry about annoyingly, and as he finds new items, rest assured, alas, they will no doubt become visible to the public once more.
The descriptive notes for the items are hand produced by Dr Ersatz himself, giving them, the Guild feels, an idiosyncratic personal touch.
The Guild itself was formed many years ago, in 2024.
It was originally intended to be a collaboration between Dr Ersatz and his friends - a plan flawed, it turned out, by the lack of any of the latter. It currently remains, therefore, and rather to his chagrin, his solo project.
The films in the Guild's collection are created using generative artificial intelligence and associated digital production techniques.
The Guild makes this method of production explicit. Historical settings, persons and events represented within individual works may nevertheless be fictional.
