Music as evidence

The Guild's musical holdings are not restricted to conventional musical films. The collection includes works in which songs and musical performance are used to reconstruct periods, places and forms of popular culture which may otherwise be difficult to document.

Several holdings consequently occupy more than one collection. The Guild regards such duplication not as an administrative inconvenience but as evidence of the inadequacy of rigid classification.
